Sailing
All forms of racing are conducted, including dinghy regattas, inshore races in Carlisle Bay and offshore races. In addition, several of our local racing boats regularly participate in overseas regattas in the Caribbean islands of Bequia, Carriacou, Grenada, St. Martin and Tobago. Local dinghy sailors also compete in regional and international regattas. Sailing Calendar
Inshore racing will be held in Carlisle Bay. A Moonlight Madness Race will be held on Friday, February 2 and Friday, March 2 to take advantage of the full moon at that time. Inshore races will also take place on April 2, May 28, December 10 and December 17. Offshore Regattas for keelboats include the following:
Sail Training Barbados Yacht Club is the venue for sail training courses offered by the Barbados Sailing Association and Barbados Optimist Dinghy Association. These courses are for both adults and children and are held on weekends. These courses are five weeks in duration and commence on March 4, April 22, September 23 and November 4. In addition, there are sail training camps held during school vacations at Easter, Summer and Christmas. Special Events In 2006 there will be a number of special sailing events, including a West Coast Treasure Hunt on April 30, Dinghy Fun Day on May 1 and a Fundraising event for Children’s charities on May 7.
